Enforcement

alimonyAn agreement is only completed when it is enforced. That may seem self-evident–unless you’ve ever been in a situation where your divorce settlement was signed by the judge, but there has been no check in the mail. Or your former spouse, who was ordered to move out of the house as part of the divorce decree, is still there months later.

When issues arise after a divorce decree, they are certainly not what you hoped for or expected. Nonetheless, sometimes they are a part of the divorce process. If you find yourself in such a situation, what you need is the help of a divorce lawyer skilled in gaining enforcement of either your Property Settlement Agreement terms or of an Order already signed by a judge.

It is preferable to resolve these issues without returning to court, and at Meislik & Meislik that is our first choice. We will use our skills and experience to analyze the situation, and then make every appropriate effort to correct it without resorting to litigation. But if the steps we take to arrive at a cooperative remedy do not obtain the necessary results, we will act on your behalf to secure from the court the necessary enforcement order.

Either way, when you actually get what you have been awarded, that’s when our family law department will consider your divorce settlement complete.
